Just another day on the server

This is a rant about this server. I have given up trying to participate in Tolos, because the factions keep getting reset. And in my absence my stuff get stolen. So, what hasn't been stolen, because of the lack of faction protection, I have given away along with most of my bases. Now I log on today, only to find that a huge project that I worked on over the weekend, in Ivalice, is no longer in existence. Even the warp is gone. I went to Ivalice to build because Pentos is nothing but a griefer's paradise and Mereen apparently no longer exists. At least Multiverse doesn't recognize it.
Now I understand that servers have issues that crop up every once in a while, but this, this is crazy. This gotten to be almost every day.
And by the way, who the hell is "Fuckles"? You need to keep in mind that there are young kids that use this server......:/

-Factions.
I know Factions got reset half a dozen of times now in the past 2 years due to technical problems, and I agree its really annoying. Especially if you also lose items.
The only other chest protection we have is LWC, but has not been used for our previous and current survival worlds because we went to use Factions instead.

So I vouch that we keep Factions, but also enable LWC for Tolos. Make it a peaceful survival world again instead of raiding and PVP.
Lately there have been more new mature players looking for a survival world without PVP, so we'd be attracting some more decent folks too.

Now I really don't know what to think of this since none of my builds from this weekend got affected :/
Has this happened before recently?

Hlot unloaded Mereen apparently when I pointed it out was not being logged by LB.
I don't know why since Mereen was going so well lately.

I understand some of these points can be really annoying, I've been there and I hope to be able to prevent/control damage now that I'm able to do so properly.
Like Factions getting reset just happen because of technical issues. The only thing I could do is keep a regular copy of the data files and spawn back in the items you lost later on. (we only have an old copy of Factions data I believe)

As for your building, I found a nether brick structure on which you worked on 27 and 28 of april.
I assume this is the missing/or partly rolled back building?

Some aspects of the server have been noticeably degrading. I know how you feel xly; every time factions are reset my chests are raided within hours. The cause is technical, and while I don't know what causes it exactly I know a few ways to prevent it from happening going forward.

Fortunately Carver and I can do more about it, and I personally intend to. For starters, I'm gonna see about cutting out a majority of plugins that I don't believe people ever use. These eat up memory and other resources, and when the server runs out of memory or other resources, shit starts to happen (files can get lost, server crashes, etc).

Second, I'm going to take a look at some of the server's configs. Personally I think LogBlock should be tracking every world that a non-mod can access.

Third, I've been considering creating an anti-grief plugin that prevents newcomers from using items like lava and TNT to any great extent, like with a cooldown (can only place one TNT per ten seconds, etc). This could discourage some griefers, or at the very least minimize the amount of damage they can do at a given time. This would be a compromise, as I believe Hlot has stated before he doesn't want to disable TNT or lava to newcomers.

The best thing we can do is pay closer attention to maintenance, and now that we have access to do so we should exercise this when needed.

Something really shitty and annoying happened the other day, I'm not sure what but it fucked almost everything up. I had to uninstall and re-install MSQL and start a new database to get log block working again at all. I'm sorry that you lost your stuff in Ivalice. Factions is normally the only plugin that randomly gets erased (which I agree must be annoying. I guess the only answer is regular backups of Factions?) Occasionally we have rollbacks but not that often and normally it's because I lost power or something. This was a rare case. If Carver or Sirrus can fix it by removing plugins or whatever then godspeed, but at least post a notice here if you remove a plugin. You never know someone might be used to it.

Also anyone seriously bothered by the word "Fuckles" has no business being on the internet. Don't even get me started on the young kids that use the server.
